Welcome to a caring profession. It is a privilege to be a part of the dental alumni and your skills are highly sought after within the community. Your membership within the dental profession comes with great potential rewards, but also certain responsibilities.

In the first instance, this involves pursuing and maintaining appropriate registrations with national and state professional bodies. Ongoing precautions will need to be taken ensure that safe and appropriate care is provided to your patients. There is also the important consideration of how you will manage your own professional wellbeing.

This handbook has been created to help you through the transition from University to professional life by addressing some of these key considerations as you embark upon your new career.

This document could not possibly equip you with all the information that you may need. It is hoped however, that it will provide a useful reference and stepping-stone for further enquiry during this busy time.

This publication would not be possible without the generous support of its sponsors. Products and services that are featured in the handbook have been tailored to some of the specific new graduate needs and interests and we hope you will find these references helpful.

Once again, congratulations on completing your undergraduate studies in Dentistry. Welcome to the profession, and best wishes for a happy and fulfilling career.
